Durban International Convention Centre (ICC)

In August 2025, Independent Quality Assurers facilitated the Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) in achieving a 4-Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa, under the Green Star Existing Performance certification tool.

This landmark achievement positions the Durban ICC as the first convention centre in South Africa to receive a Green Star certification for an existing building, recognizing its outstanding operational performance and commitment to sustainability.

Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, V&A Waterfront

The Victoria Wharf shopping centre in the V&A Waterfront achieved a 5-Star Green Star Existing Performance rating in June 2023. The Victoria Wharf is one of South Africa's most popular shopping destinations.

It has over 450 retail stores, 80+ resturants and attracts between 24 to 25 million visitors per year, making it one of Africa's most visited destinations.

Equator - The Belt Factory

Located in KwaZulu-Natal, Equator is a leather belt manufacturer where business growth and environmental sustainability go hand-in-hand.

By retrofitting its new headquarters to align with best-practice green building initiatives, Equator successfully balanced cutting-edge design and technology with environmental and social responsibility. This commitment culminated in May 2024, when the facility achieved a 5-Star Green Star – Existing Building Performance (EBP) Industrial Certification.

No.5 Silo, located in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, was awarded a 5-Star Green Star Existing Building Performance Certification in August 2024.

Additionally, the building was recognized as the Runner-Up for the Highest Rated Existing Operational Performance at the 2024 GBCSA Leadership Awards.

Bridgeway, Century City

Centrally located within the innovative Century City precinct in Cape Town, Bridgeway Offices serves as a premier example of how existing commercial infrastructure can meet modern green standards. Comprising two distinct concrete-framed structures, the project was awarded a 4-Star Green Star Existing Building Performance (EBP) in June 2025.

This certification validates that Bridgeway Offices is managed to a "Best Practice" level, focusing on reduced resource consumption, efficient waste management, and a high-quality indoor environment for all tenants.

Independent Quality Assurers was appointed to conduct comprehensive Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) audits at the Curro Head Office in Durbanville, Cape Town. Recognizing that a healthy environment is fundamental to productivity, our team performed a deep-dive assessment of the building's internal conditions.

About Independent Quality Assurers

Mellissa Titus, the Lead Sustainability Consultant, is dedicated to the Built Environment and Sustainability.

She brings years of experience and a background in construction and civil engineering within the Built Environment dating back to 2014.

Over recent years, Mellissa has developed considerable expertise in the Green Star SA rating system, having contributed to and completed numerous Green Star projects.

She has received recognition at the GBCSA Leadership Awards for her role in the green building industry in South Africa.

She is also an assessor for the Green Building Council of South Africa.
